High Shine is the new solo indie pop rock labour of love of Hobart musician Emma Marson (Peak Body, Catsuit). While on hiatus from recording and performing with other projects, High Shine developed as an all-encompassing moodboard for the artist’s kaleidoscopic musical interests (and emotions). The songs cross a range of styles and genres, from sombre, gospel hued dream pop, to experimental guitar-loop grunge or, as featured in debut single Shakedown, straight-up rhythmic pop-rock. Whatever the vibe, the artist’s signature lush vocals are always a hallmark, along with a harmony or two. Drawing from such influences as Cat Power, Sharon Van Etton, Taylor Swift, Julia Jacklin, Magic Dirt, Patti Smith, and Cyndi Lauper, High Shine's songs are personal, but muse on common themes including self sabotage, motherhood, relationships, and sexuality. Previously playing notable shows including A Festival called PANAMA and Dark MOFO with her other bands, the artist has also performed backing vocals for several accomplished outfits including Quivers, The Native Cats, and James Parry. Working alongside engineer and co-producer Jordan Marson (Slag Queens, Ragtime Frank, Peak Body), High Shine has a current focus as a recording artist, and is looking to release several more singles in 2020.
