Make some noise in the Music industry, and get the skills and knowledge you need to further your career specialising in either Music Performance or Sound Production. This course has two distinct streams – Performance and Sound Production.
You will need to decide which stream you are interested in when you enrol. The Performance stream is designed to help you gain the skills you need to seek employment in the music industry, and/or refine your skills and knowledge related to music performance in a wide variety of styles and genres, whereas the Sound Production stream is designed to help you develop the skills you need for a career in the Music industry composing and producing audio music and dialogue. In the Performance stream, you will spend your time working in our specialist studio environment, recording and producing individual projects and collaborating with others, as well as performing music at a range of community events. Your teachers will also provide you with guidance as you work independently on your own personal music performance skills. In the Sound Production stream, you’ll learn how to compile audio material for broadcast, as well as how to operate sound reinforcement systems, install and disassemble audio equipment and repair and maintain production equipment.
You’ll get lots of opportunities to mix music in our specialist studio environment, including gaining valuable hands-on experience in mixing live audio, recording sound, editing dialogue and mixing recorded music. You’ll also have the opportunity to perform tasks in the general community– working on real and simulated industry experiences or in the studio environment recording and producing individual or collaborative projects. Throughout this course, you will develop techniques for composing music and how to notate music for performance, as well as make a music demo and develop your improvisation skills. You’ll spend lots of time rehearsing music for group performances and also develop and maintain stagecraft skills and learn how to perform music as part of a group. On successful completion of the Performance stream, you will have gained a broad range of skills, knowledge and contacts, and be well equipped to seek employment in areas including instrumental tuition, recording, publishing, retail, radio and television. On successful completion of the Sound Production stream, you will be prepared to seek employment in live production environments or professional recording studios in a variety of roles, including roles as a Record Producer, Live Sound Engineer, Audio Visual Technician or Broadcast Producer.
