When Miri was 9 years old she picked up her dad’s guitar, sat down at the piano, and started writing songs. They became a way for Miri to express how she felt, whatever she was going through at the time, sometimes cheerful, sometimes sad. An emotive writer, Miri draws on the experiences of love and connection that are all around her. She writes about her own life and the lives of others.
Music has always been an important part of Miri’s life. Her parents are musicians, and Miri spent her childhood backstage at gigs and festivals. She has been playing music for as long as she can remember. Miri’s songs blend styles that cross over from folk to alt country and popular music.
‘I began playing the violin at 4 years old, and I’ve been playing ever since. I’m part of the Tasmanian Youth Orchestra, which is such an incredible way to meet other young musicians. Another massive part of my life is dance. I’ve been dancing classical ballet since I was 5 and contemporary for the last four years too. Dancing is another way to express myself, just without words.’
Miri is building a strong live following, having played at the Cygnet and National folk festivals in Australia. She was the youngest semi-finalist in the national Songwriting Prize Competition and has opened for the 2x Golden Guitar nominee Jenny Mitchell.
Mentor and music producer, Monique Brumby says of Miri’s musicality, ‘ Miri has an evolved sense of melody and a voice that is a dream to record. With relatable lyrics, her songs invite you in with an assured delivery that belies her young years. As a writer , Miri has the world at her feet and I know she is set for a stella career in the Arts.’
